Turfwerks Partners with State Tech College of Missouri for Internship Program
Wednesday, August 19, 2020AUGUST 2020

If you stopped by our service department in Johnston, Iowa, anytime this summer, you might have noticed an unfamiliar face. A very young, unfamiliar face. That’s Lucas Eddy, this summer’s intern from State Technical College, five hours away in Linn, Missouri.
“I have always loved working on anything with a small engine, so State Tech just seems the right place for me to be when it was time for college,” said Lucas.
Lucas joined the Turfwerks team this May to fulfill his summer internship requirements as need to graduate from the Power Sports Technology program at State Tech. Lucas was monitored under the leadership of Corporate Service Manager, Don Miner.
“Having Lucas here was great. He’s a really good kid and he has that natural knack for working on small engines,” said Don. “It’s great that we can partner with schools like State Tech so we can show the younger generation what kind of work is out there after school and hopefully build some kind of pipeline for these students to choose to work for us in the future.”
Lucas spent his time in the Turfwerks shop working on Jacobsen equipment, Cushman Haulers, new equipment set ups, refurbishing used equipment, troubleshooting repairs and just getting an overall sense of how a shop runs day-to-day.
“Working at Turfwerks was great. I have never gotten to work on hydraulics before and so far, that’s been my favorite part,” said Lucas. “We haven’t covered that yet in school. Maybe next semester but it’s nice I have a head start on it.”
Lucas heads back to State Tech for his second and final semester on August 24th. We will miss having him around, but wish him the best in the future. And who knows? Maybe the next time you call Turfwerks for a repair, it could be Lucas driving out to your course …
