Delivery Driver & Set-up Technician

Position Summary

The Delivery Driver and Set-up Technician transports commercial turf equipment to customers and between Turfwerks facilities. Additionally, this position is responsible for assembly and set-up of new and used equipment offered for sale by Turfwerks.

 Essential Functions

  • Safely loads, secures and transports equipment to/from customers and/or between Turfwerks facilities
  • Supports the sales staff with equipment delivery
  • Maintains records of pickup and deliveries and obtains necessary signatures and receipts
  • Maintains all required certifications in line with DOT, OSHA and company policy
  • Maintains assigned trucks, trailers and related equipment in good condition
  • Performs pre- and post- delivery inspections
  • Assists the service manager and service technicians in cleaning, organizing and maintaining the condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment
  • When not performing trucking or transport duties, assists with equipment repair and maintenance
  • Maintains a clean work area and follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
  • Promotes positive customer relations through professional interactions and appearance

 Other Responsibilities

  • Instruct customers on basic equipment operation as needed
  • Performs equipment demonstrations for potential customers as requested
  • Attend required trainings and team meetings

 Qualifications (work experience, education, certification) including KSAOs

  • Expert knowledge of binding, strapping, chaining of machinery and equipment
  • General knowledge of truck and trailer maintenance
  • Mechanical aptitude, small engine experience preferred
  • 1+ year(s) experience pulling a 26’ or longer trailer preferred
  • DOT Certified to drive ¾ ton truck with goose-neck trailer, Class A CDL preferred
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate with people at all levels
  • Good organization and time management skills; able to prioritize workload in alignment with company goals
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook and operate industry-specific software
  • Able to successfully pass a criminal background and motor vehicle records check; valid driver’s license is required

  • This position makes decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures


  • The Delivery Driver and Set-up Technician reports to the Turf Equipment Manager and works closely with turf sales and service staff; this position has frequent contact with customers, specifically golf course superintendents and service technicians.

 Special Considerations

  • Employee must have an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities (general and specialty tools may be supplied at Turfwerks’ discretion)
  • Work performed onsite at the customer’s location may involve adverse weather conditions including extreme cold and heat
  • Shop/service work is often performed in confined spaces that may be wet and dirty with noise levels that fluctuate from being moderate to very loud
  • In general, work occurs Monday - Friday; however work outside normal hours, including overtime and weekend hours are required during peak seasons and to meet delivery deadlines
  • Day travel within Iowa and to adjacent states is required daily; overnight travel may be required on rare instances

Physical Factors

  • The demand of this position often requires a high level of physical endurance. Work is medium to heavy requiring lifting 75 lbs. of force occasionally and 30 – 50 lbs. frequently to lift and move objects
  • The ability to climb up and down from the truck and trailer multiple times a day
  • To perform the delivery requirements of this job, employee is required to sit for extended periods; while performing technician duties, employee must walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Feeling, handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by using hand tools, power tools, air tools, nuts, bolts, small parts is required
